Volkswagen is preparing to electrify motorsport fans with a grand celebration at the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours. The German automaker is hosting a full-fledged Golf GTI Festival to mark the 50th anniversary of its iconic hot hatch, alongside the track debut of the 2025 Golf GTI Clubsport 24h.

2025 Golf GTI Clubsport 24h: More Power, Less Emissions

Two upgraded Golf GTI Clubsport 24h race cars will hit the Nürburgring Nordschleife, competing in the AT3 class. Both machines will run on Shell E20 bioethanol fuel, developed in collaboration with Volkswagen. This alternative fuel not only lowers CO₂ emissions but also extends range — making the GTI race-ready and eco-conscious.

Each car delivers 397 PS (291 kW) and hits a top speed of 265 km/h. The 2025 update boosts power by 50 PS to offset a new regulation that increased vehicle weight by 30 kilograms. Volkswagen’s performance partner, Max Kruse Racing, has also fine-tuned the aerodynamics by repositioning the rear wing and reducing drag without losing downforce.

Golf GTI Clubsport 24h – Improved Weight Balance and Endurance

With a lower center of gravity, lighter Protrac wheels, and better weight distribution, the Golf GTI Clubsport 24h promises sharper performance and improved durability. Drivers Benny Leuchter, Johan Kristoffersson, Heiko Hammel, and Nico Otto aim to repeat last year’s class victory. Meanwhile, the second GTI, piloted by Jasmin Preisig, Fabian Vettel, Timo Hochwind, and Christian Gebhardt, is also gunning for top honors.

50 Years of GTI Heritage on Display

Volkswagen will also unveil a Golf GTI 50th Anniversary Edition, the most powerful production GTI ever built. Although details remain under wraps, the world premiere is scheduled for June 20 at Nürburgring.

The brand is also presenting the ID. GTI Concept along with the Golf R in a fresh new shade. Fans can test their skills on driving simulators before 40 classic and modern GTI models take a parade lap around the circuit.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Golf GTI Clubsport 24h embodies the evolution of a motorsport icon—fast, efficient, and future-ready. With the Nürburgring 24-hour race as the stage, Volkswagen is set to deliver a spectacular tribute to five decades of GTI legacy.
