The third-generation Aston Martin Vanquish Volante has reached our shores with renewed exuberance. Based on the latest DB12, the new Vanquish is a sophisticated heartthrob from the U.K. Priced from a reasonable Rs. 8.85 Crores (ex-showroom, India), the new Aston Martin Vanquish is a flagship grand tourer. Understandably, the Volante will cost a lot more!
The prestigious British marque will only produce a thousand examples of this car for the whole world each year. It has been six decades since the first Aston Martin Volante rolled out of the factory. The new Vanquish Volante is here featuring state-of-the-art technological prowess and a thumping V12 heart! Its elite peers include the Ferrari Roma Spider and the Bentley Continental GTC Speed.
Exterior of the New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
In profile, the new Vanquish Volante looks absolutely mesmerizing. The lines denote an innate organic sleekness that embodies sculpted muscularity and contemporary sporty cues. The ornate 21-inch wheels look beautiful, while the sculpted front fenders house a carbon-fibre vent with ‘Aston Martin V12’ ingrained into its metal fin. Meanwhile, the attractive rear haunches end at a drooped rear.
The new Vanquish Volante’s rear design looks a touch too busy, though. It features unique stepped LED lights that are embedded into an area tucked into the car’s bodywork. A large plastic centrepiece wears the brand’s name, while the quad exhausts look like miniature tunnels. The steeply-raked front pillars and windscreen, along with the extended wing mirrors, add to the drama.
The overtly-aggressive front of the new Vanquish Volante is perhaps its least svelte design bit. The oversized grille stares you in the face like an open-mouth catfish. However, the sculpted bonnet with its louvers looks fabulous! The F1-inspired ‘nose cone’ bonnet aside, the eye-like emotive LED headlamps are absolute stunners.
Interior of the New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
If you thought the exterior of this Aston Martin was incredible, you haven’t seen anything yet. There are high-quality materials strewn across this interior, with high-end custom upholstery and trim based on customer preferences. The plush cabin of the new Vanquish Volante looks and feels positively upscale plus reasonably sporty.
The leather-upholstered seats provide plenty of comfort and support to aid in your long-distance road trips. The beautifully-finished steering wheel feels really expensive and features large paddle shifters. In front of the driver is a 10.25-inch digital display, surrounded by a carbon-fibre shroud. Then there’s the 10.25-inch HD infotainment display, surrounded by its own carbon-fibre shroud.
The busy centre console can look overwhelming at first, but you’ll get used to it soon. There are even physical controls for many of the car’s features, which isn’t too common nowadays. There’s a usable armrest with a storage cubby, two cupholders, and a fantastic-sounding Bowers & Wilkins 15-speaker sound system. There are the powered Sports Plus seats, too.
There’s the new K-fold roof, which can be opened or closed in around 15 seconds, at speeds of up to 50 kmph. The new Vanquish Volante gets automatic climate control, ventilated seats, sports exhaust, adaptive dampers, and a fancy engine push-button start. The abundance of stitched leather and carbon-fibre makes for a rich overall experience.
Powertrain and Performance of the New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
Once you’ve had your fill of a relaxed roof-down experience, there’s more lying in wait for you. This is because there’s a completely different personality of the new Vanquish Volante vying for your attention. Playing a prominent character here is Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre V12 which, in one form or the other, has been around for a while.
However, Aston Martin thought at some point that this alone wasn’t fruity enough. Therefore, two turbochargers were introduced to the mix, and the result was almost 824 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque! Driving the chunky 325-section rear tyres through an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, the new Vanquish Volante is quick.
It rockets from 0-100 kmph in 3.4 seconds – all the while sounding like a caged feline thanks to the optional titanium exhaust. Of course, it also weighs less than the standard stainless-steel system. With a top speed of over 340 kmph, the new Vanquish Volante is properly rapid! Then there’s the electronic rear differential, responding in as little as 135 milliseconds.
Even though it’s only rear-wheel drive, the new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante drives with intent. Not only does it go exhilaratingly fast in a straight line, but it absolutely eats up corners with fervour. You can also munch miles in this thing while being fully aware of its intense corner-carving capability beforehand.
This level of driving dynamics is achieved through the Pirelli P Zero tyres, Bilstein DTX dampers, and carbon-ceramic brakes. While the Coupe feels more natural when pushed hard, the Convertible is nowhere an utter disappointment. Aston Martin has also been careful of maintaining the new Vanquish Volante’s weight between the front and rear axles.
Safety Features of the New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
Aston Martin has equipped the new Vanquish Volante with electronic stability programme, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and multiple airbags. There are also parking sensors, auto high-beam, blind-spot monitoring, and a reversing camera.
Verdict
If you want an ultra-premium sports car/grand tourer in India, the options aren’t super lengthy. While Bentley and Ferrari have you covered, the draw of an Aston Martin often seems unavoidable. Its rarity is one of its most appealing aspects – only a thousand Vanquish models will be produced globally per year.
