Bastianini’s Spectacular Performance At The MotoGP Silverstone

MotoGP

Following a dream Saturday, Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) dominated on Sunday giving himself and the spectators’ fans a record breaking weekend at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix. MotoGP came back with a classic feel as Bastianini was the tenth subsequent victor at Silverstone in a decade. His unpredicted speed helped him to move to podium points and actually secured him the finishing position of the race.

Championship Standings Shake-Up

There was also movement in terms of position in the MotoGP Championship at the end of the race. The Sunday’s second place was especially crowned to Jorge Martin Prima Pramac Racing which took the title lead. Martin did most of the leading of the Grand Prix before Bastianini showed his supreme abilities. The second last place went to Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) but he also was not able to comeback in the last part of race. The difficult, almost negligible, performance of Bagnaia last Saturday that saw him garner no points and finish behind Martin on a Sunday, now sees him four points behind in the MotoGP Championship.

MotoGP Silverstone – Race Highlights

As the lights went out, Francesco Bagnaia made a phenomenal launch to claim the holeshot on the run to Turn 1. However, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) had a poor opening lap, dropping to fourth position. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) suffered an issue at the race start, leading to an early end to his MotoGP British Grand Prix.

Early Race Developments

Bagnaia took an early lead as teammate Bastianini ran wide on Lap 2, dropping behind Jorge Martin in third. Espargaro, setting the fastest lap of the race, soon found his way past Bastianini, who dropped to fourth. Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) served a double Long Lap penalty for an incident in the MotoGP Tissot Sprint, falling outside the points.

Mid-Race Battles

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) battled for seventh position. Di Giannantonio eventually dueled with Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) for sixth. At the front, tension built as Martin looked for an opportunity to overtake Bagnaia. Martin took the lead on Lap 12, while Bastianini moved into podium contention by overtaking his teammate for second position.

Late-Race Action at MotoGP Silverstone

Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) had a disappointing end to his race, retiring while battling for points. Espargaro and Marc Marquez continued their battle for the top five, with Marquez securing fifth on Lap 16. Bastianini began closing the gap to Martin, eventually taking the lead on Lap 19.
