Experiencing the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2

Ultraviolette F22 Mach 2

Ultraviolette is a Bengaluru based performance EV motorcycle manufacturer. Launched the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 the next generation electric superbike. It started off as a battery manufacturer and later diversified into manufacturing performance EV motorcycles through research and development. In the initial stage the company had launched the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 1.

It was a raw machine, it being on initial stage, missed out on some much needed features. Later, the company managed to roll out the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2, certainly the next generation of F77 Mach 1.

Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 – Looks The Same, Behaves Absolutely Different

In terms of looks and design Ultraviolette has carried the same F77 Mach 1 design, be it the front, side and the rear section. But under the chassis, the company just turned up the game. For a fact, the company is offering a free upgrade from Mach 1 to Mach 2 for the existing Mach 1 owners.

Coming back to the Mach 2, the motorcycle is now available in 2 variants or rather two battery packs. One being a lighter 7.1 kWh battery pack named F77 Mach 2 Original and the other being a 10kg heavier 10.3kWh pack named F77 Mach 2 Recon. The Original variant chunks out a decent range of 112 kms while the Recon offers 323 kms of maximum range.

Supposingly The Best Part

Hopping on to the F77 Mach 2 Recon, the first thing you notice is the weight. In figures, the motorcycle weighs a heavy 207 kgs and that weight constantly pokes you, be it handling or maneuverability. Even though people claim that a rider transitioning from a standard EV scooter can handle this motorcycle, its behavior completely contradicts that statement.

The rider’s triangle is just so different from how you ride a scooter. The foot pegs sit high and toward the back, while the handlebar maintains a composed position. In the context of a scooter, the rear brake sits alongside the right foot peg, just like on a standard motorcycle.

Moreover, the weight distribution doesn’t seem to be managed equally. While pushing the motorcycle back, even though it gets a reverse gear with a limited speed of 3kmph, moving the handle and taking reverse is just a hefty move. Being specific the weight seems to be thrown on the front part of the motorcycle, right near the cone-set. Which makes turning an unpleasant task.

The motorcycle’s ergonomics are not ideal; the mirrors are quite small, forcing you to look back based on their position. You can adjust them only to a certain extent, as excessive force may cause them to crack. Quality issues are also noticeable in certain areas, such as the switchgear, which feels loose and somewhat cheap when operated.

Pressing any button on the right side causes the entire set to shift and lose its position. But it all varies from unit to unit. Maybe the one I rode had those issues, but you really don’t expect that kind of quality with an EV performance motorcycle that costs over 3 Lakhs on the road.

Ride and Handling of Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2

The 2024 Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 is powered by a high-performance electric motor featuring a 40.2hp of maximum power and 100nm of peak torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 km/h. Equipped with a 10.3 kWh battery pack, it offers an IDC range of 323 km on a single charge. The F77 Mach 2 includes, Dynamic Stability Control, and Hill Hold Assist.

On the other hand, the motorcycle is smooth like butter on the highways or on a long stretch. The heavy weight which I was talking about, it is very much needed to keep the motorcycle glued to the road and man oh man the motorcycle loves to lose traction, but thanks to that 3 level of traction, they come to the rescue. And with that power and torque you have to have a proper suspension setup which the company has managed to provide.

When you open the throttle fully in Ballistic mode, you are forced to change your riding posture to an aggressive one. You can’t really dare to sit upright and pull the throttle open. If you fail to manage the torque you may end up in unintended wheelies. On highways you will fall in love with the motorcycle more and more. All credits to the uninterrupted flow of torque , it spikes up and flows constantly all along.

Braking and Regeneration

The brakes could be more balanced to effectively stop that much power. The rear brakes lack strength, while the front pads grip the disc aggressively when you pull the lever. This creates an unpredictable feel and feedback, leaving you unaware of what’s happening at the back when you operate the rear brake.

Additionally, the Mach 2 gets 9 levels of regenerative braking, which means a slightly better range. For instance, at level 9 you constantly need to play with the throttle while on level 0 you can easily cruise along.

Be it city or highways, the suspension might initially feel stiff. However, when passed through a rough patch, the motorcycle partially absorbs the bumps.

Verdict on Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2

Briefly, there is some room for improvement. But that doesn’t hold back the motorcycle from what it wants to be. Narayan targets the people who are in search of liter-class motorcycles. Majorly the mid segment performance motorcycles, with ICE the motorcycle competes with the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and Aprilia RS 457. And when comparing them with the context of power and torque, definitely the F77 Mach 2 takes the cup!
