Kia India May 2025 car Sales Rides High on Clavis Launch
The introduction of the Carens Clavis played a major role in boosting Kia’s sales. The new model received a strong customer response, boosting Kia’s performance for the fifth consecutive month and influencing May 2025 car sales.
“The overwhelming response to the Carens Clavis highlights the strong trust Indian families have in the Kia brand,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, referencing the favourable May 2025 car sales.
Kia also hinted at a new product launch in July 2025. This new product aims to blend design, technology, and sustainability. Kia is steadily expanding its connected car lineup and currently has a presence across 744 touchpoints in 329 cities. Observers are keen to see how the July launch impacts May 2025 car sales data, particularly for Kia’s new models.
Tata Motors experiences Pressure in PV and CV Segments in May 2025 sales
Tata Motors, on the other hand, witnessed declines across both its passenger vehicle (PV) and commercial vehicle (CV) segments. PV sales, including electric vehicles, dropped 11% to 42,040 units. Meanwhile, CV sales slipped 5% to 28,147 units during the May 2025 car sales period.
Despite the overall downturn, electric vehicle (EV) sales grew 2% YoY, totaling 5,685 units. Furthermore, it impacted Tata’s continued dominance in the domestic EV segment.
Among commercial vehicles, Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicles (ILMCVs) stood out, growing 11%, while Small Commercial Vehicles and pickups (SCVs) dropped by 20% during the May 2025 car sales period.

While Tata Motors led in absolute volume, Kia outperformed in terms of growth. The South Korean automaker is strengthening its position in the urban premium market with tech-focused, connected vehicles, while Tata is relying on EV innovation and new commercial platforms to stay competitive.
What’s Next?
With another product launch lined up for July, Kia is expected to continue its momentum, influencing future sales data. Tata Motors may look toward festive season demand and updated offerings to bounce back in the second half of 2025.
