Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing started the 2024 DTM season’s second half with a strong act at the Nürburgring that took place between August 16th to 18th. The race conditions were highly changeable. However, the members of the two Performance Teams, HRT and WINWARD did not lose sight. Maro Engel, the AMG brand ambassador, secured a third-place finish in Saturday’s rain-soaked race and clinched pole position on Sunday.

Despite a collision in the second race that dropped him to second place. Engel managed to achieve his fifth podium of the season. These outcomes have promoted him to third place among the drivers’ ratings. Further, being only 12 points behind, however, Mercedes-AMG, still occupies the second place in the manufacturers’ ratings just three points behind.

Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Saturday’s Race: WINWARD Team Secures Podium and Fastest Pit Stop

The weekend started with a dry qualifying session on Saturday morning. Wherein Lucas Auer placed his Mercedes-AMG GT3 in third, followed closely in fourth by Maro Engel. Despite starting in persistent rain, Engel promptly acted to the wet conditions, taking third place after the safety car period. His pit stop, completed by the WINWARD team in a race-best 6.4 seconds, helped him maintain his position. Ultimately finishing just one second behind the runner-up. Auer rounded off the successful day for WINWARD by finishing fourth. While Arjun Maini and Luca Stolz of Mercedes-AMG Team HRT also finished in the points, securing tenth and twelfth places, respectively.

Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Sunday’s Race: Collision Hampers Engel’s Bid for Victory

The qualifying session on Sunday was recorded with changeable weather conditions. Engel was able to give Mercedes-AMG its first pole position of the season while the conditions were far from friendly. The afternoon race also began on a dry track, and for the first few laps of the race, Engel was able to hold a lead. But on lap 19 he clashed with another car coming out of the pits. Which made him spin around and lose five seconds plus the hope of his first victory of the year.

Engel was able to reclaim the second position, and he came only three seconds behind the winner. However, Stolz came back from a spin on the first lap and ended up at the eleventh position while Auer came right behind him at the twelfth position. Maini was out of the race in the first few laps due to a technical problem that left him no option but to retire after running to the eighth position.

ADAC GT4 Germany: Mercedes-AMG GT4s Secure Three Podium Finishes

The weekend in Nürburgring also demonstrated high results in ADAC GT4 Germany series: Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing took 3 podiums. On Saturday BWT Mücke Motorsport and CV Performance Group bagged a double podium. Especially, with Luca Bosco and Mattis Pluschkell coming in second and Alex Connor and Jan Philipp Springob third. In the second race, Marc de Fulgencio and Enzo Joulié repeated good result of BWT Mücke Motorsport by taking second place. While in the number of Mercedes-AMG victories at various levels of racing for the weekend.
