Mumbai gets 35 new Electric BEST Bus from Tata Motors as their first order

Maharashtra commences its journey towards Electric Vehicle commitment by introducing 35 electric buses manufactured by Tata Motors. Out of the 340 electric buses ordered by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BSES), Tata Motors delivers 35 buses.

Shri. Uddhav Thackeray – Hon. Chief Minister of Maharashtra inaugurated the Tata Starbus, a 35 seater electric AC bus at Mahim, Mumbai. Present at the event were dignitaries of the Maharashtra State Government.

Under the GOI’s FAME II initiative and as a part of the 1st Gross Cost Contract (GCC) by BEST these buses were procured & delivered. These buses are Built, Deployed, Operated & Maintained with the entire infrastructure by Tata Motors.

Built to enhance the passenger experience the bus features Lift Mechanism, Ergonomic Seats, Charging Points, Roomy Interiors & Wide Entry and Exit Passage. Featuring Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Regenerative Braking System, Telematics System, the electric bus supports smooth operations and efficiency.

Tata Motors shall deliver the remaining buses as per the delivery schedule. Engineered to deliver the highest standard of performance to meet any terrain & rugged conditions, these electric busses have been tested & built by Tata Motors.

Tata Motors, with its best in class research & development resources, has been driving from the front with substitute fuel innovations to provide eco-friendly transportation and mobility solutions in India, including CNG, LNG, hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell innovation. Indian Oil has awarded an order of 15 hydrogen fuel cell buses to Tata Motors.

Across a few states, Tata Motors has delivered 525 electric buses accruing more than 15 million kilometers. Tata Motors’ extensive experience in EV’s ensures further upgrade in the EV portfolio.

The Hon. Chief Minister Shri Uddhav Thackery along with Hon. Mayor Smt. Kishori Pednekar inaugurated the Mahim Depot. “The depot shall be a boon for the BEST employees & shall be of great convenience to passengers.” – stated Hon. Chief Minister Shri Uddhav Thackery.
