As one of the top-selling BMWs in India, the X3 crossover SUV’s success is vital for the German brand. This is exactly why the new BMW X3 has been revealed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The fourth-generation avatar ushers in new design and tech features to the line-up – almost a brand signature at this point.
The BMW X3 faces feisty competition from the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, etc. Known historically for its admirable on-road performance and high-quality interior, the 2025 X3 holds some promise. The added equipment is set to strengthen the new X3’s position as well. So, what do we know so far?
Variants and Prices of the 2025 BMW X3
As per BMW India, there are two variants of the new X3. There is a base petrol variant and a base diesel variant. The xDrive 20 M Sport starts at ₹75.80 Lakh and the xDrive 20d M Sport at ₹77.80 Lakh. Note that these prices are ex-showroom, India.
Design of the 2025 BMW X3
To distinguish it from its precursor, the 2025 BMW X3 sports a new design language. The upright and block-like front has a revised kidney grille with new inner patterns. The new headlights look sharp with their signature LED DRLs, while the sporty bumper looks athletic. The M Sport package means the bumper integrates a more aggressive design & lower fascia.
The rear of the 2025 X3 bears some similarities to the BMW XM, with its pinched taillights and carved-out tailgate. However, the aero-efficient roof spoiler looks quite small and unimpressive. This rear end does look a bit lost and uninspired – it still features a faux diffuser. The M Sport package adds new but boring-looking 19-inch alloy wheels that look undersized.
When it comes to the exterior colours, the 2025 BMW X3 gets at least five options. There’s Dune Grey Metallic, Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Individual Tanzanite Blue, and Black Sapphire Metallic. The 2025 X3 measures 4,755 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,660 mm tall – it isn’t too imposing. The only imposing aspect of this BMW is its face.
Interior Features and Cabin Comfort of the 2025 BMW X3
Some might find the interior of the new X3 to be a bit too bold, but it certainly looks interesting. There are snazzy and translucent bits in the cabin that are backed by customisable LED ambient lights. The stylish but minimalist dashboard design has its central portion angled towards the driver, while the seats are upholstered in recycled Econeer.
The M Sport package gets new Veganza/Alcantara upholstery, also an eco-friendly leather alternative. The X3’s interior houses recycled polyester and maritime plastics, along with several ‘M’ badges and a 12.3-inch M Sport gauge cluster. The M Sport steering wheel features small flappy paddles, plus piano black trim and brushed aluminium accents. These materials are repeated on the centre console, too.
Located in the middle of the dashboard is a responsive & high-definition 14.9-inch touch-infotainment display. It houses the X3’s HVAC controls and integrates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The main connectivity features include the My BMW App, BMW Digital Key Plus, and BMW Connected Drive. These features allow users to monitor and control various aspects of the car remotely.
The new X3’s feature set includes a 15-speaker Harman/Kardon surround sound system, rear roller sunblinds, and a panoramic glass roof. There are new Sports Seats with powered lumbar and ventilation (front only), wireless charging, and three-zone climate control. There’s also a head-up display, surround-view cameras, and adaptive cruise control. Meanwhile, the extendible under-thigh support adds to the front-seat comfort.
There’s more usable room at the back of the new X3 along with increased cabin insulation. This not only improves the occupant comfort but also makes driving this car in our busy cities less tiresome. The new X3’s interior feels well-built, and the bevy of materials & textures contribute to the car’s overall character.
Safety Tech of the 2025 BMW X3
The 2025 BMW X3 has lane-departure warning, blind-spot assist, dynamic stability control, cornering brake control, etc. It also gets hill-start assist, hill-descent control, driver-attention assist, 8 airbags, parking sensors, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Users will appreciate tech like a tyre-pressure monitor, ISOFIX anchors, and the auto-dimming IRVM.
Powertrain and Performance of the 2025 BMW X3
BMW has installed a 48V mild-hybrid system in the 2025 X3, delivering better efficiency and performance. The former is achieved with the use of an automatic engine stop/start mechanism. Meanwhile, the latter can be felt when pulling away from a standstill or when trying to overtake slow-moving traffic. Both petrol and diesel models get BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The xDrive 20 M Sport packs a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 190 hp and 310 Nm of torque. As for the xDrive 20d M Sport, its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine makes 197 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Both get an 8-speed automatic transmission that’s smooth yet quick to respond. They also have adaptive dampers, ensuring an optimum ride and handling balance.
The X3 20d takes 7.7 seconds to reach 100 kmph, which is 0.1 seconds quicker than its petrol-powered sibling. However, the top speed of both is similar, around 215 kmph. While the new Michelin e-Primacy tyres offer low rolling resistance (great for fuel efficiency), they’re likely suboptimal when driving aggressively.
Conclusion
The 2025 BMW X3 is packing more tech, new & sustainable cabin materials, and an updated design. All that comes at a cost – this X3 is more expensive than the Q5 or the XC60. It’s also not the sharpest-looking BMW of late. But, the new X3’s fancy interior looks really contemporary and upmarket.
