The Porsche Formula E Team is ready for the first double-header of the season. Formula E will debut in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a new milestone for the series. This event also introduces Pit Boost, an innovative rapid charging strategy, set to make its first appearance on Friday.
Championship Leaders Aim for Another Podium
After a strong double-podium finish at the Mexico City E-Prix, António Félix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein are set to continue their momentum. The team has consistently secured podiums in the last nine races. A top-three finish in Jeddah would extend this impressive streak to ten.
Thomas Preining Joins Practice Session
Austrian driver Thomas Preining will test the Porsche 99X Electric during a rookie session. Preining, the 2023 DTM champion, has prior experience with the car from pre-season testing in Berlin. Further, his participation strengthens Porsche’s driver development program.
Porsche Formula E Team’s Success in Saudi Arabia
The Porsche Formula E Team has a strong track record in Saudi Arabia. The team has secured three victories in the country, including Pascal Wehrlein’s dominant wins in Season 9 at Diriyah. Porsche also made its Formula E debut there in 2019, with André Lotterer securing a podium in their very first race.
A Modified Jeddah Circuit for Formula E
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit, known for hosting Formula 1 races, will be adapted for Formula E. Further, the 3.001-km track features four additional chicanes. This change helps drivers manage energy regeneration more efficiently. Especially, making it a unique challenge for all teams.
Pit Boost: A Game-Changer in Formula E
For the first time, Formula E cars will recharge during a race. The new Pit Boost system allows cars to receive 3.85 kWh of power in just 34 seconds. This technology, delivering 600 kW of power, represents a significant leap in electric racing. Porsche’s road-going Taycan Turbo GT, for comparison, charges at a maximum of 320 kW. This demonstrates the direct link between Formula E innovation and Porsche’s electric road cars.
Porsche Formula E Team Leads the Standings
With 58 points, the Porsche Formula E Team leads the championship after two races. António Félix da Costa tops the driver standings, while Wehrlein sits in fourth place. Porsche also leads the manufacturers’ classification with 55 points, closely followed by Nissan.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming Jeddah E-Prix will test the team’s adaptability on a new circuit. With a strong lineup and cutting-edge technology, the Porsche Formula E Team aims to continue its winning streak. Fans can expect an exciting race as Porsche fights to maintain its lead in the championship.
