Porsche Taycan GTS Sets New Guinness World Record

Porsche Taycan GTS World Record

The Porsche Taycan GTS has proven its top performance again with a world record. Especially by setting a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous drift on ice by an electric vehicle. This happened in Lapland, where Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter completed 132 laps in a controlled drift. Moreover, he covered 17.503 kilometers in just 46 minutes.

Challenging Conditions for the Porsche Taycan GTS

The record attempt began on January 14, 2025, in harsh weather at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland. The center is 150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The ice track deteriorated fast under the Taycan GTS, forcing the team to stop their first attempt after 11 kilometers.

Further, the team adapted quickly. Not only did they switched to shorter spikes on the Michelin tires and waited for colder temperatures after sunset. This strategy worked. Jens Richter maintained a controlled drift for 132 laps, breaking the previous record of 14.809 kilometers.

Precision and Performance of the Porsche Taycan GTS

The Porsche Taycan GTS demonstrated remarkable handling and balance. Further, it stayed precise even in extreme conditions. Jens Richter praised the car’s performance, saying:

“This Guinness World Record highlights the Taycan’s ability to handle extreme conditions with ease. The Taycan GTS has an outstanding chassis and balanced performance, making it easy to control on icy surfaces.”

To ensure accuracy, the drift was measured using a professional GPS system. This system tracked the exact distance and real-time data on steering, acceleration, braking, and G-forces. Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville verified the attempt. He then awarded the certificate to Jens Richter and Christian Lehwald, Managing Director of the Porsche Arctic Center.

Moreover, this is the fourth Guinness World Record for the Porsche Taycan lineup. The electric sports car has proven its engineering and performance in extreme conditions:

  • In 2023, the Taycan Cross Turismo set the record for the greatest altitude change for an electric car along the Xinjiang-Tibet route (5,573 meters).
  • In 2021, a Taycan hit 165.1 km/h inside an enclosed building in New Orleans, setting a record for the fastest indoor speed.
  • In 2020, the Taycan completed 210 drift laps at the Porsche Experience Center Hockenheimring, covering 42.171 kilometers in 55 minutes.

Porsche Taycan World Record: A Benchmark in Electric Performance

With its latest drifting world record on ice, the Porsche Taycan GTS proves its exceptional control, power, and endurance. As Porsche pushes EV technology to new heights, the Taycan GTS leads in innovation and motorsport excellence.
