BMW Motorrad launched the all-new BMW R 12 nineT and BMW R 12 motorbikes in India. The ex-showroom cost of the new BMW R 12 nineT is ₹20,90,000 and the BMW R 12 ₹19,90,000. Further, this CBU shall be available for deliveries from September 2024.

Design and Features

Classic Design and Ergonomics

The BMW R 12 nineT is a roadster whereas the BMW R 12 is a cruiser featuring a classic design and optimal ergonomics. Especially, built on a versatile one-piece tubular spaceframe. The airbox is placed under the seat with an angled spring strut, allowing freedom in the seat and sideline design.

BMW R 12 nineT: Features an aluminum tank with brushed and clear-coated side panels, dynamic seat, and tail-hump, creating a compact and short rear end.
BMW R 12: Similarities to a Toaster Tank features a steel tank from the 1970s BMW /5 models. Further, highlighting the large 19” front wheel and a small 16” rear wheel is the classic teardrop shape and low-mounted rear wheel cover.

Attention to Detail

Comparing the models, one can easily notice details such as the front fender bracket detailing of the bike, and the LED headlight. Moreover, the instrument panels are perfectly integrated in, both in the R 12 nine T bike and in the R 12 bike we have two round instruments. The turn indicators integrated on the cap of the upper fork are smoked lenses. Further, supplemented by the smoked lens turn signals on the rear of the R 12 nineT.

Engine Specifications

Both the BMW models feature an air/oil-cooled boxer engine:

BMW R 12 nineT: Features a 101 mm bore, 73 mm stroke with 1,170 cc capacity, generating 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm.
BMW R 12: Generates 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm and 110 Nm torque at 6,000 rpm.

Frame and Exhaust System

These models’ focus consists of the newly designed tubular bridge steel-space frame. Additionally, which replaced previous fasteners for a cleaner and more traditional appearance. Further, joined to the main frame by the use of bolts is the rear frame. Especially, the exhaust system the ‘Twin Pipe’ with two rear silencers of reverse cone type.

Suspension and Braking of BMW R 12 nineT & BMW R 12

Suspension

The Beamers get upside-down telescopic forks with a 45 mm slider tube diameter. The R 12 nineT gets a Paralever swinging arm mounted diagonally angled spring strut.

Braking

The front wheels in the two models have a twin disc brake, in conjunction with radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake callipers, with a diameter of 310mm. The rear wheels have one disc brake and its 2-piston floating calliper with the diameter of the brake disc is 265mm. Moreover, its equipped as standard BMW Motorrad ABS Pro for safe cornering.

Safety Features

The new release of the R 12 models features DTC, engine drag torque control, and Tyre Pressure Control. They added the standard adaptive Headlight Pro light system that increases safety when driving at night. The Keyless Ride system kind of does away with the customary form of ignition lock and key.
