At the GM Forward event in New York, General Motors unveiled its vision for GM Intelligent Mobility. A future where AI, robotics, and energy innovation combine to redefine how people move. Chair and CEO Mary Barra, along with senior leaders, showcased how manufacturing scale and software expertise are turning vehicles into intelligent assistants.

Eyes-Off Driving with GM Intelligent Mobility

A major milestone in GM Intelligent Mobility is autonomy. Moreover, GM announced its plan to introduce eyes-off driving in 2028, beginning with the Cadillac ESCALADE IQ electric SUV.

The company has already mapped 600,000 miles of hands-free roads across North America. Moreover, customers have completed 700 million miles using Super Cruise without a single crash attributed to the system. Combined with over five million fully driverless miles from Cruise. Further, GM’s technology and safety validation provide the base for the next era of personal autonomy.

Conversational AI Enhancing

Starting next year, GM will bring conversational AI powered by Google Gemini to its vehicles. Further, drivers will be able to interact naturally with their cars, asking for assistance, directions, or explanations of features.

In the future, GM plans to launch its own AI, fine-tuned to each driver’s preferences and connected via OnStar. This system can detect issues early, explain vehicle functions, and suggest stops all personalized to the driver’s habits and route.

Advanced Computing Power Driving GM Intelligent Mobility

In 2028, the Cadillac ESCALADE IQ will debut GM’s new centralized computing platform, a major step in GM Intelligent Mobility. Moreover, the platform will link propulsion, steering, safety, and infotainment on a single high-speed core.

This upgrade delivers 10x more over-the-air update capacity, 1,000x more bandwidth, and up to 35x more AI performance allowing vehicles to learn, adapt, and improve even after leaving the showroom.

Robotics and Manufacturing

GM’s Autonomous Robotics Center (ARC) in Michigan and its lab in California are building robotics systems that learn from decades of production data. Further, these intelligent robots or “cobots” are improving efficiency, safety, and precision in GM’s U.S. assembly plants.

Through this expansion, GM Intelligent Mobility extends beyond vehicles to manufacturing, where AI and robotics work together for smarter, safer operations.

Powering Homes with GM Intelligent Mobility

Most GM electric vehicles can now supply backup power to properly equipped homes. From 2026, the GM Energy Home System will offer bi-directional EV charging and a stationary battery for leasing.

This ecosystem supports renewable energy integration, allowing vehicles to return power to the grid a key part of the GM Intelligent Mobility vision for sustainable living.
