KTM 990 RC R | Bridging Everyday and Racing Performance

KTM 990 RC R

The KTM 990 RC R marks the return of a true Supersport machine to KTM’s lineup. Designed to bridge the gap between everyday use and track-ready performance. Further, the new RC R blends racing DNA with rider-friendly ergonomics, cutting-edge electronics, and a lightweight chassis.

KTM 990 RC R: A Supersport for All Roads

The KTM 990 RC R carries KTM’s clear READY TO RACE spirit but adapts it for everyday conditions. With a weight distribution of 52.5% front and 47.5% rear, this bike offers sharp handling and rock-solid stability. Its aerodynamic fairing not only provides downforce but also channels airflow for better engine cooling.

KTM developed the 990 RC R after years of MotoGP™, Moto2™, and Moto3™ experience, bringing Grand Prix technology to the streets. The chassis features a new subframe, a flexible swingarm for superior grip, and fully adjustable WP APEX suspension that delivers both comfort and precision.

KTM 990 RC R Engine and Performance

At its heart, the KTM 990 RC R runs a 947cc LC8c twin-cylinder engine producing 130 PS at 9,500 rpm and 103 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. Engineers remapped the engine from the KTM 990 Duke for sharper throttle response and improved performance.

The stainless-steel exhaust design centralizes mass while the integrated airbox and triple-lambda sensor system refine fuel efficiency. This EURO5+ compliant engine combines thrilling power delivery with responsible emissions and impressive fuel economy.

KTM 990 RC R Chassis and Ergonomics

The KTM 990 RC R features a lightweight steel frame with revised geometry for agility and comfort. Its new aluminum subframe integrates air intakes and cuts 400 grams of weight. The swingarm and linkage system are designed to balance stiffness and flexibility, giving the bike exceptional traction and feedback.

Rider ergonomics were a major focus. With adjustable footrests offering “Street” and “Track” positions, clip-on handlebars, and an 845mm seat height, the RC R suits a range of riders. The 15.7L fuel tank and fairing design were shaped through wind tunnel testing for optimal aerodynamics and rider stability at speed.

KTM 990 RC R Electronics and Ride Modes

Technology takes center stage on the KTM 990 RC R. The 8.8-inch full-color TFT display is intuitive, responsive, and customizable. It supports map navigation, music, telemetry, and multiple layouts via a new haptic switchcube.

Five standard ride modes Rain, Street, Sport, Custom, and Track allow complete control over throttle response, traction, and ABS behavior. The Track and Tech Packs further unlock features like Launch Control, Anti-Wheelie Control, Cruise Control, and a Quickshifter+.

Every bike includes a Demo Mode offering full access to all features for the first 1,500 km, letting riders experience the full potential before choosing their upgrade package.

KTM 990 RC R Braking, Tires, and Warranty

Stopping power is delivered by premium Brembo HyPure calipers and twin 320mm front discs. Michelin Power Cup 2 tires ensure grip and durability both on track and road. The wheels, borrowed from the 1390 Super Duke R, balance lightweight design and strength.

The RC R also features a redesigned LED headlight and aerodynamic bodywork with MotoGP-inspired winglets generating over 14 kg of downforce at 252 km/h.

Backing its engineering confidence, KTM offers a 4-Year Premium Manufacturer’s Warranty, double the usual coverage.

Availability and Track Version

The KTM 990 RC R enters production in October 2025, first arriving in Europe before expanding globally. The 990 RC R Track version dedicated only for tracks will follow in February 2026, built for pure circuit performance.

Final Thoughts

With its blend of MotoGP technology, adaptable ergonomics, and street-ready manners, the 990 RC R redefines the Supersport segment. Whether carving corners or hitting the track, the machine thrills riders on every ride, every day.
