The Colton Herta Cadillac F1 journey is officially underway, with the American racer confirmed as the Test Driver for Cadillac’s Formula 1 entry. The team is preparing for its first appearance on the grid in the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

Colton Herta Cadillac F1 Role

Herta, 25, has nine INDYCAR wins, 16 poles, and over 1,000 laps led in 116 starts. In 2019, he became the series’ youngest driver to claim both a race win and a pole. Moreover, a record achieved at Circuit of the Americas, the track that also hosts Formula 1 in the U.S.

Before his success in America, Herta competed in Europe from 2015. Especially, notching multiple victories and podiums in the Euroformula Open Championship and British F3. His sports car record is equally impressive, with class victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (2019, 2022) and an overall triumph at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2024.

Building the Future with Cadillac

The Colton Herta Cadillac F1 appointment comes after Cadillac confirmed Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez as its first full-time race drivers for 2026. Herta now becomes the team’s first designated Test Driver under the TWG Motorsports banner. His task will be to provide feedback, assist with development, and support the team as it builds toward a competitive debut season.

“This is a dream role and an important step for me,” said Herta. “I’ve always wanted to compete in Formula 1. Moreover, joining Cadillac at this stage gives me a chance to contribute to something historic.”

Team Principal Graeme Lowdon praised Herta for his skill, race intelligence, and maturity. While General Motors President Mark Reuss highlighted his American motorsport roots and determination. Together, Herta, Bottas, and Pérez will form a driver lineup designed to give Cadillac a solid foundation as it enters F1.
