Audi Sport GmbH, formerly known as quattro GmbH, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Established on October 10, 1983, Audi Sport GmbH has played a significant role in shaping the sporty and exclusive image of the Audi brand. Over the past four decades, the company has produced more than 250,000 vehicles, with over 400 motorsport titles to its name.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife, also known as the “Green Hell,” has played a crucial role in shaping Audi Sport GmbH. The demanding track serves as a benchmark for the production vehicles developed by the company. Every new R and RS model undergoes extensive testing on the Nürburgring, covering thousands of kilometers to ensure the vehicles meet the highest standards.

To commemorate its 40th anniversary, Audi Sport GmbH will be celebrating at the Nürburgring 24 Hours race. The four Audi R8 LMS cars of the Audi Sport Teams will feature retro designs inspired by famous liveries from Audi’s motorsport history. Additionally, former DTM champions Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Scheider, and Martin Tomczyk will participate with the number 40 as their start number, paying homage to the 1992 Audi V8 quattro DTM.

The Celebration

Audi has planned various activities for the anniversary. Such as a “Champions’ talk” with renowned drivers, exhibitions showcasing Audi’s history, and a rally for fans of the brand. The anniversary exhibition, titled “40 years of Audi Sport GmbH – Fascination Meets Performance,”. Further, it will provide a comprehensive overview of the company’s history at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm.

Moreover, looking at the future, Audi Sport GmbH aims to carry the sporting DNA of the four rings into the electric era successfully. The company is actively involved in electrification efforts for both production vehicles and motorsport.
