The objective of the traffic police is to reduce the number of road fatalities by 50% in the coming 5 years. Additionally, there in Mumbai there would be surprise checks on 58 black spots. These spot recorded maximum accidents over the past few years.
Further, Mumbai recorded 447 deaths on road fatalities in 2019 and 349 in 2020 20% lesser. As per the records, most of the fatalities involved two-wheelers and speeding was a major cause.

Moreover, many social activists have demanded zero-tolerance against road crashes. They also stated the officials should go beyond just issuing challans to offenders. Additionally, they recommended awareness campaigns for road safety. Awareness campaigns like the importance of Helmets for riders and the pillion, observing lane discipline and speed limit and wearing seatbelts.

Such initiatives by the Traffic Police will not only spread awareness but also second the challans issued to offenders during the campaign period. The official YoY data by the RTO shall state if the acquisition of interceptors were a success or failure.
