New Initiative By NHAI, 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' Introduced

New Delhi, January 15, 2024 – In a bid to elevate the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system and facilitate smooth movement at Toll Plazas across the nation. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. This strategic move is designed to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with a specific vehicle.

Deactivation of FASTags with Incomplete KYC Post 31st January 2024

NHAI is urging users to complete the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for their latest FASTags. Further, aligning with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). FASTags possessing a valid balance but lacking complete KYC information will face deactivation or delisted by banks after the deadline of January 31, 2024.

User Responsibilities and Compliance of FASTag

To mitigate potential inconveniences, users are advised to ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTag. Additionally, users must adhere to the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ guideline. Especially, necessitating the discarding of all previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. Moreover, the latest FASTag account will remain active post 31st January 2024. Further, deactivating or delisting all other FASTags.

For any assistance or queries, FASTag users can seek support from the nearest toll plazas. Or contact the toll-free customer care numbers provided by their respective issuer banks.

Addressing System Abuses and Inefficiencies

NHAI’s decision to implement the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative follows recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle. Further, violating RBI’s directives of distributing FASTags without the mandatory KYC process. Additionally, cases of deliberate non-placement of FASTags on vehicle windscreens have led to unnecessary delays at toll plazas. Further, causing inconvenience for fellow National Highway users.

FASTag’s Remarkable Impact

With an impressive penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and boasting over 8 crore users. FASTags has significantly revolutionized the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country. Further, the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative shall enhance toll operations’ efficiency. Further, ensuring seamless and comfortable journeys for National Highway users.
