The Maharashtra government introduced a mass project to grow the Electric Vehicle charging stations in Mumbai. The government intends to setup 1,500 Electric Vehicle stations in the years to come, Mumbai alone gets 134 stations which are expected to be installed shortly.
The government has invited tenders for setting up EV charging stations in Mumbai on a twelve-year lease.
“We will team up with private parties to strengthen the infrastructure of Electric Vehicles. Government shall offer power at a concessional rate of 5.5 per unit”- mentioned a senior government official.
The consumption charge shall be lesser by a rupee at night hours. An open space of 100sqmt would be a minimum requirement to set up a charging station. The Electric Vehicle charging stations would be outside large residential complexes with drive through access to the main road in proximity, shopping malls, movie hubs, banquets, recreational centers & restaurants.

The Maharashtra state’s Electric Vehicle policy 2021 intends to achieve 25% electrification of city public transport. Especially, with the last batch of delivery vehicles by 2025 across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Also, influence the sale of electric scooters & cars.
Therefore, the need for an adequate number of charging stations becomes extremely important. Excluding the charging stations at 27 BEST depots and 29 BMC public parking lots in Mumbai, vendors have installed around 300–350 EV charging stations in Mumbai and Maharashtra over the past year through strategic tie-ups. This includes 70 in Mumbai and 30 in Navi Mumbai stated an official from ADDA. Further, it has over 12 years of presence in the Apartment Society Management industry.
