In an effort to promote a clean and green environment, Tata Motors and Uber have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This brings 25,000 XPRES-T electric vehicles (EVs) into Uber’s premium category service across seven cities in India. The deliveries of these cars to Uber’s fleet partners will start in a phased manner from this month.

Tata Motors is a leading automobile manufacturer in India and has already rolled out over 50,000 Tata EVs to date in the personal and fleet segments. The XPRES-T EV is the first vehicle under the newly launched ‘XPRES’ brand exclusively for fleet customers. Moreover, it comes with two range options – 315km and 277km (ARAI certified range under test conditions). Further, it has a high energy density battery of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh. It is available with fast-charging from 0-80% in 59 mins and 110 mins, respectively.

It also has the convenience of normal charging from any 15 A plug point. The car comes with zero tail-pipe emission, a single speed automatic transmission, dual airbags, and ABS with EBD as standard across variants. It also has premium interiors with automatic climate control and Electric Blue accents across its interior and exterior, which will make it stand out from other Tata cars. Uber has committed to 100% of its rides taking place in zero-emission vehicles, on public transit, or with micro-mobility by 2040.

For Tata Motors

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, expressed his delight in partnering with Uber to promote sustainable mobility in the country. He believes that offering customers environmentally friendly EV ride experiences through Uber’s Premium Category service will accelerate the adoption of green and clean personal ride-sharing. The XPRES-T EV is an attractive option for both customers and operators. As it offers enhanced safety, a silent and premium in-cabin experience, fast charging, driving comfort, and cost-effectiveness. This partnership with Uber will further cement Tata Motors’ market position in the fleet segment.

For Uber India

Mr. Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, sees this partnership with Tata Motors as a major milestone in Uber’s commitment to bringing sustainable, shared mobility to India. It is also the largest EV partnership yet between an automaker and a ridesharing platform in India. Moreover, it will help to supercharge the transition to zero emissions on the Uber platform. Uber is committed to doing its part to bring down the barriers to going electric. By working with industry partners that are leading the change.
