The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC embodies Sporty, Modern & Luxury in every aspect. One of the most dynamic models of the SUV segment of Mercedes-Benz. At first glance, the design with unique proportions, substantial surfaces, accurately molded edges and a high-quality interior. Moreover, the driving performance and efficiency shall continue to impress.

The GLC shall be available only as a hybrid model. It shall be available either as a plug-in hybrid or as a mild hybrid with 48-volt technology and an integrated starter-generator. The plug-in hybrids generate a range of more than 100 km (WLTP) perfect for predominantly electric daily driving.

The GLC is built for all-terrain either on or off the road, it will impress with its comfort and agility. The new rear-axle steering ensures furthermore maneuverable and safe. Off the road mode comes with numerous elements like the standard 4MATIC, pure electric off-road driving in the plug-in models, the off-road screen and the “transparent bonnet”.

Design: Sensual purity, intelligence and emotion

The new GLC inherits the legacy of the Mercedes-Benz SUV family. Standard features comprise the AVANTGARDE exterior with a Chrome package containing chrome window surrounds and a new chrome-look simulated under guard. The redesigned front end of the GLC with headlamps directly connecting to the radiator grille emphasizes the vehicle’s width. The new radiator grille comes as a standard AVANTGARDE exterior with a chrome surround and a sporty louvre in matt grey with chrome trim.

The exterior displays a full spanned surface design with precisely shaped edges on the sides. Emphasizing the proportions, accentuates the muscular wheel arches creating a balance between elegance and off-road performance.
The new 2-section rear lights comprise a three-dimensional look and emphasize the width of the rear end. Further, the chrome under guard enhances the tailpipes.

Interior: Modern, sporty luxury

Welcome to the modern, sporty luxury of Mercedes-Benz says the new GLC. The perfectly designed  dashboard with the upper section portraying a wing-like profile. The new flattened round nozzles resembling the engine nacelles of an aircraft. Whereas, the lower section has a magnanimous trim area flowing into the curved center console. Moreover, the driver gets a high-resolution LCD screen of 12.3”. Whereas, the central display of 11.9” seamlessly rises without any joints from the console.

The luggage capacity benefits from the large rear overhang resulting in a 620Ltr which is a significant increase. (+70ltr compared to the preceding model).
The new GLC has optimized the bodyshell and sophisticated sound insulation resulting in the vehicle being much quieter with a serene sound signature. Furthermore, the new GLC comes with a new panoramic sunroof as an option.

Engine: Systematically electrified four-cylinder units

The new GLC comes only as a hybrid vehicle either as a plug-in hybrid or as a mild hybrid with 48-volt technology along an integrated starter-generator. The engine is powered by a four-cylinder from the FAME (Family of Modular Engines) Mercedes-Benz engine family. Moreover, four of these engines are mild-hybrid units that receive intelligent support in the low rev range from an integrated 2nd generation starter-generator (ISG). And three further engine variants are full hybrid units, that come with an additional electric power of 100 kW and an electric range of over 100 km.

The system comprises a 48-volt electrical system, that enables functions like “gliding”, boost or recuperation resulting in significant fuel savings. Additionally, the engines start very quickly and comfortably due to ISG, hence the start-stop function is almost imperceptible to the driver. The intelligent interaction of the ISG and the combustion engine is commendable when ideal resulting in smooth running.

Plug-in hybrids: An electric range of over 100km (WLTP)

The GLC gets the 4th generation plug-in hybrid drive. Using the identical basic engines, electrification just got better. Generating an electric output of now 100 kW, a torque of 440 Nm and an all-electric range of over 100 Km (WLTP), daily routes can go all-electrical.

Conclusion

Overall the new Mercedes GLC seems extremely promising and electrifying. The new GLC in India is expected to be priced around INR. 65lacs to INR. 75lacs. However, the actual pricing and India launch shall be announced soon.
