Volkswagen Group Reports 2% YoY Growth In India For 2023

New Delhi, 18th January 2024: In a recent announcement on Monday, European auto giant Volkswagen Group revealed that its car sales in India experienced a year-on-year growth of around 2%, reaching a total of 145,713 units in 2023. The company, operating under Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, emphasized the resilience of its sales performance. Further, with domestic sales surpassing 100,000 units for the second consecutive year.

Domestic and Export Sales Breakdown

The sales data for 2023 indicated that out of the total units sold, 101,465 were in the domestic market, while 44,248 units were exported. This showcases a significant 32% year-on-year growth in export figures, reinforcing the company’s expanding global footprint. The overall customer deliveries in the domestic market witnessed a 4% growth. Further, highlighting the robust market presence of the Volkswagen Group in India.

Luxury Car Brands and Market Trends

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, home to five luxury car brands — Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini — underscored the noteworthy double-digit growth recorded by its luxury brands Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini in 2023. This growth trend reflects the increasing demand for premium mobility options in the Indian market.

Strategic Initiatives and Future Outlook by Volkswagen

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, expressed satisfaction with the company’s consistent growth in the past year. He emphasized the brand’s commitment to diversify its offerings with a mix of electric (BEV) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models. Arora also revealed plans to reach more customers in India and expand their international market reach in 2024.

To support these goals, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India strategically launched the Parts Expedition Centre at the Chakan facility in Pune. This initiative aims to bolster locally-manufactured parts supplies, supporting production in Vietnam starting from 2024.
