Cheers for Mumbaikar! The Maharashtra Government announced to launch 900 AC Electric Double Decker buses in Mumbai as per the approval of its plan. Last year the government had launched 25 Electric buses.

The Environment Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Aditya Thackeray tweeted – “The Best Double Decker Now Electric.” Further, he added the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Uddhav Thackeray & himself were keen to revive the Iconic Double Decker Buses which is also considered the second lifeline of Mumbai. The BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport) shall procure 900 AC electric emission-free double-decker buses. This shall be under wet lease for the tenure of 12 years. Though the first batch of the shall hit the Mumbai streets by end of this year.

Moreover, Shri Aditya Thackeray stated the aim is to maximize the double-decker buses, resulting in increased capacity.

This shall be yet another progress by the Maharashtra government to abide by its commitment to move towards emission-free public transport & government vehicles by maximizing electric vehicle usage.

Additionally, he also urged the municipal commissioners of other cities to procure double-decker electric buses. This shall be along with other electric bus procurement.

Now, will the Electric Double Decker double the revenue for the struggling transport unit will be under lenses?
